Pattern shirts

Patterns are a great way to add a touch of colour, but be careful when paring them with the rest of your clothes.

Here are a few ideas for wearing patterned men's shirts:

• You can't go wrong if you wear it with dark blue jeans, for a carefree, trendy look.
• For floral patterns, choose trousers (and perhaps a casual jacket) in a solid shade that echoes the pattern; we recommend chinos, elegant but not over the top.
• Complete your look with a pair of sneakers or modern-style loafers.
• For special occasions such as weddings - if the dress code allows - you can combine a patterned shirt with a tailored suit. But choose a floral or geometric pattern that's not too flamboyant.
